I have been trying on and off since Tobin was 2 to see if he was ready for potty training. I had no luck whatsoever because he just wasn't ready. He's also very stubborn which makes it very difficult. He has now 3 1/2 years old and I am determined to have him potty trained before Noah gets here. So last week I buckled down and started potty training. It went pretty well. Tobin actually peed in the potty quite a bit. He had several accidents and is still trying to get the hang of it. He prefers a diaper and some days will refuse to sit on the potty, but we are getting there. He even pooped in the potty which we rewarded by taking him on the train at the mall. As you can see, he was thrilled with that reward:
Unfortunately, because of the potty training Tobin became very constipated so we ended up back in diapers. I am leaving to go to Arizona (yay, my first trip by myself since Tobin was born) on Wednesday and will be gone until the weekend. So I decided to put a hold on potty training and will just pick it up again once I get back. At least now I know that he can do it. Apparently with Tobin, it's all about bribing so I just need to figure out some good bribes!
Do you have any great potty training tips or advice? If so, I would love to hear it! Just leave a comment below!

Oh the joys of potty training :) I tried with my son for a long time and along with Autism and other health issues it just was not working, so we backed off. He was not completely potty trained until almost 5! I know bad mommy but Brody does things on his terms and when he was finally ready he did awesome! My daughter has had SERIOUS constipation issues and was so scared to use the toilet. When we tried to potty train her she would get backed up and then impacted(sorry TMI) :( I finally got sick of changing a 4 year olds but and just took all diapers and pull ups away! She was not impressed and there was lots of tears but she is FINALLY potty trained and her bowl issues are actually improving and we don't have to do Miralax everyday anymore :) :)
My daughters little one got constipated too. I wonder why they get so stubborn?
My best advice is what Cassie said: just take the diapers away and tell him he doesn't use them anymore. Yes, messy, yes a pain for a little while, but I think once he's in real cotton pants all the time, he will get sick and tired of being wet or messy. Don't scold or anything when he has accidents, just say, okay now we have to put on new undies/pants. And just keep asking and reminding him to try because he'll forget. He's used to going whenever. I just took a very nonchalant approach when I took away Karina's diapers. We had to stop halfway through too because I had company come for a week and that just wasn't going to fly. Afterwards she didn't want to try anymore, so I just took away her diapers and said, "You're a big girl now. You use the potty and you wear undies." And after a couple of accidents, she was fine. But don't worry, I'm sure Elena will be a hard case. She's already totally unlike her sister in many ways!
