Sleep Training - I Cracked the Code, Noah is Sleeping Through the Night!

It has been 5 nights since I started sleep training Noah. I wrote about day one and day two, but haven't had time to write about days 3,4, and 5. So day 3 was the worst. His naps got messed up that day so it was so hard to get him down for his naps. Then bedtime started off fine and he slept for 5 hours but then Tobin started screaming (he had growing pains) and Noah woke up. My husband was trying to help and went in to get Noah but that really messed things up. So it took me hours to get Noah back to sleep. Then he kept waking up every hour. I realized that it was because his Sleep Sheep that we use, only goes for 45 minutes and then shuts off automatically. He loves the ocean sounds and I think that helps him to sleep. So Monday I searched all over for a sound machine and couldn't find one that didn't automatically shut off, so I ended up by a CD with ocean sounds on it. Then I just put my CD player on repeat and it plays all night.

So day 4 was amazing. Noah took awesome naps in his crib and he wasn't too hard to get to sleep. Then he slept from 6:30pm to 6am! He slept the whole night!!! I think the ocean sounds really helped because they are not only comforting, but they block out all the other noises in the house. Yesterday he took 2 amazing naps, one 2 1/2 hour nap and another hour nap. Unfortunately we went to visit my husband at work and didn't get home until past Noah's bedtime. I realize that just can't be done for now because then it took forever to get Noah to sleep because he was over tired. He slept pretty much all night but did wake up at 4:30am because for some reason the CD player stopped playing so it woke him up. I was able to get him back to sleep though and he slept until 6:30am. Now he is down for his first nap and has been sleeping for over an hour.

I still can't believe that I just started the sleep training last Friday and Noah is now sleeping through the nights, taking awesome naps IN HIS CRIB, and I am no longer nursing him to sleep. That is SO AMAZING! I've had a few people ask about the book, so the actual name of it is The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems: Sleeping, Feeding and Behavior.

I bought mine at Barnes & Noble for $20 and it looks like on Amazon it's only $13.60. If your like me though, you are probably willing to spend whatever it takes to get your baby to sleep! That's what it was like for me. I do suggest some sort of white noise such as boxed fan, sound machine (but one that plays continuously), or a nature CD playing on repeat all night. I heard that Barnes & Noble has a great selection of nature CD's, I bought mine at Target for $10 and the one I chose just has ocean sounds.

I also forgot to mention that the whole time I have been doing the sleep training, Noah has been teething. So he has had a runny nose and has been pretty miserable, but it still worked! I am just so happy and best of all, it did not take long. To finish off my experience with sleep training, here is a beautiful picture of my baby....SLEEPING!!!

That is an adorable picture. It just makes me smile! I am so beyond happy that he is sleeping better for you because I know it means YOU are sleeping!! Having been through this, I wish I had gotten this book instead of the one I got, but in the end we got it worked out. I guess I would say to all parents of little ones who aren't sleeping: you don't have to live like that!
